How the hell did I end up here?
What is The Rabbit Hole? It started as a way to share information about food as medicine. To share what I experienced by ditching household chemicals, processed foods, gluten and most dairy to eating real food, you know the stuff that comes from the ground, not a packet?! Twenty years of symptoms disappeared and I’m always improving. While there’s no one diet that fits all, there is plenty you can do to start finding out what that is for you. That’s what a rabbit hole is, a journey into the unknown until you find somewhere comfortable to sit….then you may need to move on if that place doesn’t suit you anymore….get my drift? If you read on, you’ll discover the why, where, and what for’s of my journey to The Rabbit Hole today. I’ve included some links coz you never know, you may find something interesting!
We all need different things, but we need all things. To nourish, nurture and to live.
Personal growth requires a little exploration, trial and error, and a wee bit of commitment. Some creativity helps the development of ideas. Then there’s the planning, training and motivation that helps you reach your goals. But what if you don’t know what your goals are? I didn’t know I would be sitting here writing this blog 5 years ago! Everything just developed in a natural, progressive way.
Real Food….who woulda thought?
Through my own personal health and wellness journey, I discovered that getting back to eating real, whole food and treating yourself with a little love and kindness can turn your health around. I’m not just talking about sickness symptoms, some changes can help you sleep better and think clearer, giving you more energy and feeling more enthusiastic about life in general. After 20 years of nursing I discovered I no longer wanted to be the person who keeps people alive with antibiotics, medication and surgeries. Yes, modern medicine plays a major role in health care, but I have learnt that what we eat, how we manage our stress levels and move our bodies can turn a health issue on its ear and out the door! There are many people I’ve learnt from through the courses I’ve done, podcasts I listen to and finding a community of people looking to positively change themselves and those around them…some are changing the world!
Firstly I started listening to podcasts where you can find out anything you want to know. My fave’s are part of the Wellness Couch which is where I discovered Cyndi O’Meara, Kim Morrison and Carren Smith who do the Up For A Chat podcast. They have recently closed that chapter in their lives, but the information and “chats” they’ve had will always be there. There are plenty more to choose from, and the beauty of The Wellness Couch is that even though they have lots of different podcasts linked to them, none of them double up, they all have a different focus.
Bye Bye 17 years of ICU Nursing
After some time of self-learning and deciding to make a shift from nursing, I came across the Functional Nutrition Course developed by Cyndi O’Meara, Nutritionist, author, speaker and amazing lady! This is what changed my life. This gave me the tools to create change and how to help others do the same. The information you learn is life changing for you and the people around you. It’s the ripple effect!
With my nursing background, I always leant towards the scientific, evidence based learning that I got from the Functional Nutrition Course. I’m a practical chick who sticks to the facts. I knew I had to go outside my comfort zone and into the world of perspectives, self love and mindset. I worked out that you can find happiness and reach your goals by allowing yourself to expand and grow. Learning how to challenge my beliefs about myself and others has helped me live each day in the present and how to turn my frustrations into constructive assessments of a given situation….or to just let things go, which seems to be the usual outcome!
Kim Morrison, founder of Twenty8 Essentials, was the icing on the cake that got me to where I am today. I had seen Kim speak at the Wellness Summit, and immediately had a little girl crush on her! I found her so inspiring, motivating and a wee bit naughty! Every time I learnt something new, I felt myself expand personally and professionally. Like with The Rabbit Hole, life evolves and Kim now has many programs and offerings available online and in person. I’ve brought Kim to Hobart, Tasmania a few times now and can never get enough of her message of self love. Overcoming some of the limitations I put on myself and learning how to nurture and care for myself helped me be the best mum, wife and friend that I can.
As an Aromatherapist, Kim talks about the power of essential oils and how to use them in everyday life to bring about calm or as a pick me up. We live such busy lives and it’s easy to forget how to take a breath and some time out to fill our love buckets so we have more to give back. That’s why I love Kim’s Essential Self Care Weekend where you get a full dose of immersing yourself into learning how to love yourself more and enough to treat yourself with the respect you deserve. The flow on effects of being able to do that has a profound ripple effect to everyone around you.
My most recent escapades have been completing my NeuroLinguistic Programming (NLP) and Time Line Therapy (TLT) certificates with Juliet Lever. This is where I worked on my own self-limiting beliefs in order to be able help others do the same. Another tool in my toolbelt!
And here I am. Where are you?
All that I’ve learnt has taught me the importance of having goals to keep me on track in life and being grateful for all I have. I’m always working towards something and life has more meaning and direction with goals or ambitions. Little changes in life can make a big difference. You get more shit done for a start.
Think for a minute…..what would you like to change? What impact does it actually have on your life and those around you? What impact would it have if it was different?
Any step taken is better than taking no steps at all
