Gelatin forms the structure of our skin, hair and nails. You know, all the things we ladies spend so much cash to keep it all looking pretty? Well, gelatin is the secret ingredient you can get in your belly every day to keep it all ticking along nicely as the years go by.
It is also a major component of our bone structure and as we age, it deteriorates and things start to get brittle and weak. As a nurse for over 20 years, I’ve seen a massive amount of falls in the old ducks that sometimes sends them off to the nursing home prematurely. The ageing process can be super challenging, but there’s heaps you can do to keep your body strong enough to keep it under a little better control. But you’ve gotta start now!
Ageing is not an excuse to stop looking after yourself.
It’s not uncommon for people to use ageing as an excuse to move less, lift nothing, sit more and fester away in their living rooms. Yes your body deteriorates, but that is all the more reason to pay more attention to it than ever. You will see these amazing creatures at 80 or 90 years of age still climbing mountains, lifting weights, dancing and loving life without the fear of injury or some other hideous catastrophe. They continue to live life and be as active as possible indoors and outdoors. The key is to not stop doing what you normally do and if you do nothing now, then take a slow and steady approach to increasing whatever it is you do do.
💡Regular consumption of gelatin improves bone and skin structure, including joints,
💡Gelatin is super soothing and healing for the gut lining.
💡A healthy gut lining improves digestion and creates the perfect environment for your gut bugs, the controllers of your immune system and passage of vitamins and minerals.
💡The amino acid, glycine, is abundant in gelatin and has been known to aid sleep. Yay!
Where to find gelatin:
Bone broth homemade from organic and grass fed bones – use it in your cooking or drink it as a cup or tea with salt and spices.
Gummies made form organic gelatin, 0r pannacotta….just use less gelatin from this recipe.
Collagen powder in your smoothies (I use Gelpro Australia) just make sure it’s not made from South American cattle (save the trees!)
Slow cooker recipes using meat with bones or scrummy meats like beef cheeks.
Other cool things to cruise through ageing effortlessly:
💡Move more than you did yesterday
💡Hang out with people who make life easy and fun
💡Wake up with a plan and purpose
💡Eat food that nourishes you and tastes flippin’ awesome
Most of all, quit the excuses and blaming ageing for sitting around doing F-all!
Love you long time, and so should you. ❤️
